Research says it is 20 times more dangerous NOT to bike than to bike. Even without a helmet. The health benefits are so much larger than the risks.

Owning or renting..?

After having biked in Moscow for two seasons my advice is clear. Rent a bike. The pros truly overweigh the cons. No responsibility for parking and locking. Rental tires can hit an endless number of curbs without going flat. And they are surprisingly comfortable. Not to mention the social aspect of rental biking - a number of curious moscovites and tourists alike smile and talk and ask a thousand and one questions related to biking. Or to dating. Beware that quite a few moscovites are impressed by your biking and would like to get to know you better. So the con of not having a higher gear than three might be a pro. How could you otherwise go slow enough to hear all the compliments..?

Beginning of a new era

Today I decided to start blogging. Because I want to share the euphoria of swooshing down the streets of one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Meeting smiling fellow bikers and curious pedestrians. Realizing how Moscow drivers are giving me space. Finding gems like a tram station hidden away on a silent street.
